DP Curriculum

IB Diploma Programme
The IB Diploma Programme is a two year pre-university course of study that leads to examinations. It is designed for highly motivated, well organised students aged 16 to 19. The IB Diploma aims to: 
  • prepare students for tertiary studies
  • provide students with a balanced education
  • foster critical thinking skills
  • encourage cultural understanding and respect
  • develop international awareness and broaden perspectives.

To be eligible to attain the IB Diploma students have to:

  • study six subjects, one from each group
  • complete three subjects at standard level (SL) - 150 hours minimum per subject
  • complete three subjects at higher level (HL) - 240 hours minimum per subject
  • satisfactorily complete the requirements of the following: the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and Creativity, Activity and Service.
DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS

Extended Essay (EE):
Students are required to undertake original research and write an extended essay of some 4000 words.

Theory of Knowledge (TOK):
This subject explores the relationship between the various subjects, ensuring that students engage in analysis and critical reflection of the knowledge they acquire within and outside of the classroom.

Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS):
Students are expected to be involved in CAS activities for the equivalent of at least three hours each week during the two years of the programme.

  • Creativity is interpreted broadly to include a wide range of arts activities as well as the creativity students can demonstrate in designing and implementing service projects.
  • Activity can include participation in individual and team sports but also taking part in expeditions and in local or international projects.
  • Service encompasses a host of community and social service activities. Some examples include helping children with special needs, visiting hospitals, and working with refugees or homeless people.
